How to play Diggerton
Everything below is also in the game — press H any time for the built-in help page.
Opening the game
- Press Play now above — the game runs right here in your browser.
- Click New World (or Continue if you've played before).
On a tablet or phone the game notices and switches to touch controls automatically. You can also download the offline copy: unzip it and double-click index.html — no internet needed, ever.
Playing on a computer
- Click the world once to take control of the mouse. Press Esc any time to get the mouse back (that also opens the pause menu).
- Walk with WASD, look around with the mouse, jump with Space.
- Hold the left mouse button to dig. Right-click to place the block you're holding (a see-through preview shows where it will go), or to eat food.
- Pick what you're holding with keys 1–9, the mouse wheel, or by clicking the bar at the bottom.
- E opens your pack (and crafting in Survival, or the block list in Creative).
- C switches between Creative and Survival. H shows help with every control and recipe.
Playing on a touch screen
- The circle on the left is your walking stick — drag it to move. Drag anywhere else to look around.
- JUMP jumps, holding MINE digs, USE places a block or eats.
- In Creative, tap JUMP twice quickly to fly — a DOWN button appears; tap JUMP twice again to land.
- The buttons at the top right open the tools, your pack, the mode switch, help, and pause.
The two modes
- Creative — endless blocks, no danger, and you can fly. Great for building.
- Survival — you have health and hunger bars. Punch trees for wood, craft tools, and watch out at night: shamblers come out in the dark. They burn up at dawn. Apples sometimes fall from leaves; bread fills you right up. Falling hurts — unless you land in water.
Sculpting — the special part
Any solid block face can be pushed or pulled in fine 0.1 steps, like modelling clay:
- Press Q (or tap SELECT) and click a block face — it lights up.
- Drag to push or pull it, or tap the +0.1 / −0.1 / +1 / −1 buttons, or use the arrow keys (hold Shift for whole-block steps). A green or red preview and a number like +2.3 show the change.
- Press Enter (or ✓) to make it real. Esc (or ✕) cancels.
Measuring
Press M (or tap MEAS), then click two points. A line appears with the distance in blocks, accurate to one decimal. Make as many as you like; Clear removes them, Exit puts the tool away.
Crafting (Survival)
Press E and tap a lit-up recipe. Start with: log → planks → sticks → wooden pickaxe. Stone tools need a crafting table placed nearby. Torches need coal (mine the stone with dark specks) — place them to light the night and keep shamblers away.
Saving and backups
The game saves by itself every few seconds, on your own device. Close the page and come back later — just press Continue.
In the pause menu you'll also find Export Save (downloads a small backup file) and Import Save (brings a backup in). If your browser ever blocks saving, the game tells you clearly and keeps running — use Export Save so nothing is lost.
